VISTA Healthplans selected as sole health insurance carrier for Broward County Government

Over 6,000 employees and their dependents will have access to four enhanced health benefit plans

Sunrise, FL (August 30, 2007) - VISTA Healthplans (VISTA) announced today that it has been awarded a one year contract to be the sole health insurance carrier for Broward County Government (BCG), effective January 1, 2008. The County has not had a single carrier since 1999. Through the contract, over 6,000 eligible employees will have a choice of four open access health benefit plans. VISTA's open access plans offer BCG employees and their dependents comprehensive health benefits, fixed out-of-pocket copays, an extensive network of over 6,000 physicians, and self referral to any participating specialist.

"This year our Insurance Committee was challenged with the task of negotiating the County's health insurance renewal amid severe budget constraints and rising health insurance premiums," said Broward County Mayor, Josephus Eggelletion, Jr.

"Selecting VISTA as the sole carrier has allowed us to continue to provide our employees with an affordable health plan package that offers premium benefits and encourages the use of routine and preventive health care services."

In addition to a HMO plan, VISTA is also providing BCG employees with a choice of three consumer driven health plans that include a health reimbursement account (HRA) component. Partially funded by BCG, the HRA helps employees offset the costs of deductibles and coinsurances. Any HRA funds that are not used during the calendar year will be rolled over to the employee's HRA allowance for the following year, as long as the employee remains in a consumer driven plan.

All four health benefit plans feature no co-pay for preventive services such as physical exams, immunizations, well-child exams for children up to the age of 16 and annual well-woman exams. The plans also include a free basic gym membership at participating fitness clubs, discounted hearing aid benefits and discounts on complementary and alternative medicine such as acupuncture, Pilates, tai chi, yoga and massage therapy. In addition, the Open Access HMO plan features dental and vision benefits.

Through the contract, employees and their dependents will also have access to a walk-in clinic that provides medical services including most routine blood draws, flu shots and treatment of minor illnesses and injuries. With convenient hours, the center will be within walking distance of the downtown Governmental Center. In addition, to help meet the customer service needs of BCG employees, VISTA will have two full-time account representatives on-site at the Governmental Center's Employee Benefits Office.
